Nigeria and Maldives opens new tourism possibilities

The Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Maldives will embark on a new era of tourism and business development in the next months.
Following a recent Familiarization Tour of The Maldives led by Ms. Elizabeth Agboola, CEO/Founder of NTT Global Destinations, and a team of legal, trade, and cultural marketing specialists, this is set to begin.
The trip was organised in connection with the International Maldives Travel Conference, which provided important insights into the tourist and business prospects of Nigeria and the Maldives.
Despite the fact that Nigerians have been visiting the Maldives for decades, there is still lots to see and do in this world-renowned tourist destination.
The team was able to enjoy delicious cuisine as well as a wide range of sights and accommodation options, ranging from high-end luxury hotels to guest houses on both local and resort islands. The team also had the opportunity to go “island hopping” by speed boat and domestic flights.
Meeting with Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdullah Mausoom, as well as engagements with Mr. Rafil Mohammed, Executive Director of The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) – the oldest tourism association in the Maldives, and Mr. Thoyyib Mohammed, Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation, were among the highlights of the trip (MMPRC).
The Minister highlighted his vision for the Maldives’ tourism development, expressing the hope that Nigerian tourists will soon play a significant role in the industry’s growth and expansion.
“As the Maldives celebrates its Golden Year of Tourism in 2022, outreach to an important market like Nigeria is critical and would be further enhanced, with the introduction of direct air connections”
Dr. Abdullah Mausoom, Minister of Tourism, Maldives
In collaboration with Nigerian tour operators, NTT Global Destinations has developed destination marketing plans for the Maldives, and will spearhead efforts to offer direct charter flights in the near future.
Nigerians do not require a visa to visit the Maldives, and the government has removed the requirement for a COVID test as a condition of entry.
