Maldives Break it’s Record of Daily Tourist Arrivals

The Maldives has once again, topped its highest tourist arrival number, breaking the previously set record within 24 hours.
On 19 December 2020, Maldives received the highest number of single-day arrivals, which summed up to of 4,567 daily entrants. However, the country successfully surpassed its previous accomplishment and declared the advent of 5,555 more visitors the next day, on 20 December 2020

Love you ALL,” stated the Honourable Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom in a tweet.
Since the borders reopened, the Maldives marked a gradual increase in tourist arrivals due to the establishment of travel bubbles between Maldives and other countries, as well as, greater connectivity in terms of flight operations. Over 18 airlines are currently traveling to and from Maldives, from all around the globe.
Looking at recent travel statistics, Russia remains the top arrival market with 23,226 tourists. This is followed by India with 18,758 tourists. The United Kingdom has jumped to the third position with 12,372 with the USA at number fourth with 6,715. Other top source markets include the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Ukraine, France, Spain, and Brazil.
Despite the current state of the world or the challenges faced due to the global pandemic, the tourism industry of the country is steadily progressing forward, with the help of the established safe tourism guideline by the Ministry of Tourism, enhanced precautionary measures against COVID-19, and several marketing activities and campaigns are being launched raise destination awareness.
The Maldives recently welcomed its anticipated 100,000th tourist since border reopening, as well as the 500,000th tourist for 2020 during this month. It is estimated that the country will reach its peak tourist arrival rates and greet 1.5 million tourists in 2021.
