Maldives border miles selects first Gold Tier recipient
George Corbin, one of the Maldives’ tourism pioneers, and his daughter Georgia Corbin, the first child tourist to the Maldives, receive the world’s first Abaarana (Gold) Tier of the Maldives Border Miles, the world’s first destination loyalty program.
During an exclusive event held at the Velana International Airport’s VIP Lounge, the Minister of Health, Honorable Ahmed Naseem, presented them with the prestigious Abaarana Tier. Mr. Corbin met Honorable Minister at the Maldives Embassy in Sri Lanka in 1971, and they later collaborated to introduce tourism to the Maldives. George Corbin was an Italy-based diving tour operator at the time, and he has made significant contributions to the tourism industry ever since.
George Corbin and his daughter arrived in the Maldives on February 15, 2022, to take part in some of the celebratory events marking the Maldives’ tourism’s Golden Jubilee. Mr. Corbin brought the first group of tourists to the Maldives, primarily journalists and divers, on February 16, 1972. They were all intrigued by the Maldives’ untouched natural beauty, the archipelago of scattered islands, and the wonder beneath the sea.
Members of the Abaarana Tier receive the most privileged offers. The most enticing offer for this Tier is free VIP services. They are also eligible for great discounts from all of the Maldives Border Miles partners.
