Abu Dhabi Funded International Airport To Boost The Ultra-Luxury Tourism Zone Of Noonu Atoll

On Sunday, 01st December, the first commercial flight, operated by the national airlines, Maldivian touched down in Maafaru International Airport to officially launch their operations. Ending a longterm wait by the locals, as well as the luxury resorts in the region the Abu Dhabi funded International Airport is said to bring a boost to the well-established tourist properties at the zone.
The official opening ceremony was held in the afternoon of the same day. Government officials and senior officials of Maldivian’s parent company Island Aviation Services Limited (IAS), who will be managing the airport attended the ceremony. Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam honored the ceremony.
Maldivian will be operating daily flights between the main Velana International Airport, located in the capital Male’ City and Maafru International Airport daily. Carrying locals and tourists to the nearby islands and resorts.
The USD 60 million funded project involved the development of a 2.2-kilometer runway, airport features with state-of-the-art facilities that can cater to international flights and even private jets- an added benefit to the ultra-luxury resorts in Noonu Atoll.
Noonu Atoll features Maldives’ top resorts including Cheval Blanc Randheli, Vela Private Island, Soneva Jani, and Movenpick Maldives with more coming soon at the well developing ultra-luxury zone. Located 180 kilometers north of Male’ City, Noonu Atoll offers pristine and authentic Maldivian settings for high-end luxury brands to establish their famed resorts and private islands across the atoll.
The Maldives passed the 1.5 million tourist arrival target for 2019 through November is well on track to welcome more and more travelers from all over the world for tropical getaways and holidays that they would not forget. With the opening of the new International Airport, Maldives and especially the Ultra-Luxury zone awaits a boost in terms of arrivals.
